Q-CON 18.06.2016 50SS fixed faction tournament

Game report - Q-Con 18.06.2016

On 18.06.2016 I had a pleasure to attend to 50SS fixed faction tournament which was organized by Robert McCallum (Northern Ireland Henchman) as a part of Q-CON XXIII convent.

As a person full of sportsmanship attitude, I decided to bring Levi with me just because we all love this guy ;)

Round 1

It looks like it is some kind a tradition (or something is wrong with my name) as I was a BYE again (like in Paddyfaux). Thankfully Rob gave me a game with his TT Lucas McCabe. It was the first time I played against this master so I was really glad that finally I had a chance.

We played following encounter:
Deployment - Flank
Strategy - Reconnoiter
Schemes - Convict Labour, Take Prisoner, Set Up, Hunting Party, Show of Force

I decided to use this crew:
Levi (3SS pool) - Pariah of Iron, Tally Sheet, Desolate Soul
2x Hollow Waif
Joss
Mechanical Rider
Johan
Hunter
Flesh Construct
Hodgepodge Effigy

My schemes were: Set Up (Lucas) and Take Prisoner (Oiran)

Plan was simple: try to provoke Lucas to get closer to me so I could charge him with Mech Rider and drop scheme markers with the trigger. Then Levi would try to take him down while rest of the crew would engage with enemy models.
Plan worked perfectly. On turn 2 I scored max points for Set Up and on turn 3 Levi torn Lucas to pieces (severe damage of 8 with melee is a scary thing). After I finished Lucas I was taking out enemy crew piece by piece until on turn 5 all what was left was one TT Brother, Komainu, High River Monk and Oiran who was engaged by Abomination (Levi killed nearby Katanaka Sniper that turn) getting me max points for Take Prisoner and I won this game 10-3 but because I was a BYE I got auto 10-5 win anyway.

I used for the first time Hunter and Flesh Construct and I'm pretty happy with their performance. Especially I like Hunter with his 3'' push at the end of the turn.

Few photos from the game:

Turn 1 - the trap on Lucas is set

Turn 3 - Levi is ready to whack Lucas to pieces

Turn 5 - Levi will bring Katanaka Sniper down summoning Abomination in the process. Joss and Hunter are waiting in case if Levi would need a help.

Round 2

This round I was to play against Declan and his Arcanists so I decided to bring Relic Hammer ladies with me. The choice was absolutely correct as I was about to face Ramos with Joss, Howard, Firestarter and horde of Arachnids.

For round 2 we had this encounter:
Deployment - Standard
Strategy - Extraction
Schemes - Convict Labour, Hunting Party, Exhaust Their Forces, Mark for Death, A Quick Murder

This turn I decided to go Bone Levi:

Levi (3SS pool) - Pariah of Bone, Desolate Soul
2x Hollow Waif
Rusty Alyce
Taelor
Johan
Dead Doxy
2x Rotten Belle
Hodgepodge Effigy

My schemes were: Hunting Party, A Quick Murder (Howard)

Plan for a game: lure Howard and deal with me asap then lure a minion a turn and kill it with Rusty/Johana/Taelor.

Again I started game really as on turn 1 I lured Howard really close and welcomed him with Rusty (Rapid Fire), Taelor and finally Levi. I took me 6 attacks to bring him down - Declan either cheated very high cards for defense or I flipped lousy for attack. Ultimately it was Levi who swung a killing blow at Howard.

Having him removed I focused on luring one Arachnid (Ramos summoned a bucket of them on turn 1 and 2) close enough to kill it with Rusty, when Levi killed Firestarter turn 2 and Joss killed from combined effort of Johana and Taelor on turn 3.
As I predicted Declan took Exhaust Their Forces and scored a number of points from this scheme. As a second scheme he had Mark of Death which he planned to use by tagging me with Arachnid and follow up with killing my model with Joss/Howard. Since both his beaters were down he could really score a strategy.
I pressed aggressively and on Turn 5 all what was left on Arcanists side was one Arachnid and Essence of Power.

I won this round 10-5.

Few photos from the game:

Turn 1 - crews approaching to the centre of the table. Howard was changed into Abomination already.

Turn 2 - Arachnid horde approaching. Levi and Co patiently awaiting a this swarm of constructs.

Turn 3 - Outcasts are 'processing' Arachnids into the scrap. Soon the table looked like a scrapyard.

Turn 4 - Taelor finishes Ramos and brings game to the end.

Round 3

Final round and my arch-nemesis: Mike and his Ressers.
Mike for first two rounds was using rather opponent friendly masters (Ressers as friendly masters... LOL! ;)): Yan Lo and Tara, but because there is a chemistry between us just for me he brought his beloved Kirai. Gloves off and ere we go ;)

Round 3 encounter:
Deployment - Close
Strategy - Collect The Bounty
Schemes - Convict Labour, Show of Force, Covert Breakthrough, Leave Your Mark, Frame For Murder.

I used this crew:
Levi (3SS pool) - Pariah of Bone, Tally Sheet
2x Hollow Waif
Rusty Alyce
Johan
Dead Doxy
2x Rotten Belle
Hodgepodge Effigy
2x Necropunk

I picked: Frame for Murder (Necropunk) and Leave Your Mark.

My plan on the game was to use lure to drag enemy models away from Kirai and Lost Love and kill them scoring strategy while Necropunks would run for Leave Your Mark and Frame For Murder.

Till round 3 everything was running OK and the score was 3-3 although I made terrible mistake and didn't put sucker-Necropunk close enough for Mike to kill him. Then I made (at least) few more mistakes and Mike was able to beat me heavily and I lost the game 4-8.
I was hoping to deal with Kirai herself on turn 1 as I was able to lure her into open and charged her with Levi. Unfortunately my control hand was crap this turn and I had no high card to cheat severe damage. Then Rusty would finished her off with her shooting. Also if I had won initiative on turn 2 Kirai would be shred to pieces by Levi but Mike re-flipped initiative with high card and run away with her.

Few photos from the game:

Turn 2 - Levi ready to whack Kirai. Unfortunately she won initiative and run away into the building.

Turn 3 - Levi charges Izamu killing it but Izamu swings his blade before he dies at Levi dropping killing him... Crap...

Turn 4 - I'm trying to grab some points but Mike is playing very well giving me no chances to win this game.

In the final classification I have landed ultimately on the 3rd place so I can honestly say it was a good day ;)

Big thanks for all my opponents for 3 great games (I'm gonna get you one day, Frenchie! ;)) and big kuddos for Rob for all his effort in organizing this event - it was really a pleasure to attend it.
We will see at the Q-CON next year! ;)

Till next time!
